10 Ways to Ward Off Mosquitoes

Warmer weather is cause for outdoor entertaining, but be prepared for unwanted visitors. Bloodthirsty mosquitoes show up wherever there’s warmth and moisture; fortunately there are measures you can take to stop these pests from sucking the fun out of everything. Warding off mosquitoes will allow you enjoy being outside but these precautions aren’t solely to lessen the nuisance – these disease-carrying bugs can be a legitimate threat to our loved ones. Efforts to prevent mosquitoes from showing up to the party add the bonus of deterring other pesky insects at the same time, and these tips should do the trick.

Avoid Still Water

Stagnant or still water is a breeding ground for this pesky insect, so it’s best to minimize these kinds of environments as much as possible; this includes water in buckets, gutters, kiddie pools, bird baths, and any other containers. Circulating water, such as that in a fountain, should be fine.

Mosquito-Repelling Plants

Use nature to boost your exterior’s defense. Certain plants have mosquito-repelling qualities, such as: marigolds, lavender, artmisia, and nepeta. Try adding some of these to your garden in addition to cutting down high grass, brush, and tree limbs and ridding all foliage debris.
