Finding the perfect headboard can be a struggle; you’re tasked with staying on budget, finding a piece that meets your aesthetic preferences, and then (possibly) putting it together. Building your own furniture can eliminate most of those issues, and since you’ll likely have to assemble a headboard either way, why not make your own DIY modern headboard that will save you a ton of cash and look better than what most retailers have to offer.

Cushion

Using a bench cushion from IKEA, A Pair and a Spare fashioned her easy DIY headboard to the wall with pins and leather straps.

Lightbox

With this fun lightbox headboard from Poppytalk you can literally make any statement you want in your room.

Live Edge

We’re loving this easy and trendy live edge headboard that can be cut from one piece of plywood. According to Classy Clutter, this is a great beginner’s project, so anyone can get this look at home!

Tufted

A tufted, velvet headboard that’s as high-quality as this custom-built version will cost you several hundred dollars or more at a store. See how Place of My Taste did it for about $230.

Plywood Print

Sometimes less really is more. The Merrythought styled this stunning and easy DIY headboard with a bare piece of wood and a black and white mountainscape photo.

Geometric

ISpyDIY shows us how to build a DIY modern headboard with clean geometric lines that makes a perfect backdrop for any mattress.

Extra Wide

This extra long headboard doubles as a posh accent wall in this project from Fabric Paper Glue.

Slatted

For only $70 you can build this wooden arched board and design the Scandi bedroom of your dreams. Head to Vintage Revivals for the steps!
